Congratulations to The NyPD Commissioner Jessie Tisch And the mayor who chose him six months ago, Eric Adams, and above all, tens of thousands of women and men from the New York police department, for Bring back to the lowest level of all time in the number of shots and homicides in the five districts. Thank you to all those who wear the blue for making more than 8 million of us safer.
During the first five months of this year (Tisch was sworn in on November 25), there were 264 shots and 112 homicides. Not only did these figures returned to the pre-cook range before the big peak which came with the pandemic, but both are lower than the previous year as far as crime statistics were held.
Before now, January 1 to May 31 for shots took place in 2018, with 267 shots. As for homicides, there were 113 in 2017 and 2014.
And the trends fall fortunately, because last May, 54 shots and 18 homicides. The best May before was in 2019, with 61 shots and 19 homicides.
The next challenge for the cops and Tisch is to stay there and push the numbers when time warms up, because summer is traditionally when the Empire crime. NYPD is ready with a plan to reduce summer violence and the new quality of life division to deal with non -dangerous application troubles that disturb everyone.
We arrived here with hard work and what Tisch calls the police of precision and always, always in search of illegal canons, which cause so much blood out. Since Adams took office in 2021, the NYPD has seized more than 22,000 illegal firearms that include ghost cannons, which, although it is not found, can kill as ordinary firearms. Illegal firearm war? You bet there are and nypd wins the war.
Tisch wants more cops, just like everyone who appears for the mayor. But the gross number of uniform officers is not the only answer. This is how these cops are used effectively. And this is where Tisch excelled. Leave them next six months (and perhaps beyond?) Environmental as productive.
We cannot think of nothing that we prefer to do the commissioner. In fact, there is something. And it is not so many Tisch as commissioners who had previous. The City CharterThe New York Constitution is explicitly clear about the issue of assistant commissioners of the NYPD.
Chapter 18 of the Charter is the police service. Article 431 is the commissioner. Article 432 covers the deputies, who indicate: “The commissioner must have the power to appoint and ensure that the seven deputies are known as the first assistant commissioner.”
The NYPD website Lists a first assistant commissioner and a dozen other deputies, for a total of 13, almost double the seven authorized by the Charter.
Perhaps there is a kind of bogus distinction between “named” deputies (capped at seven) and “designated” deputies (with an authorized unlimited number). Or maybe just the inflation of the title for people who can be assistant commissioners. Or maybe the charter must be modified. But in any case, the Charter, which is supreme of any law, regulations or local rule, must be respected and it says that seven and seven are seven, not 13.
