Will the new Apple equipment steal the thunder from iOS 26 at WWDC 2025?

Each year, as Apple's WWDC approaches, speculation about what new products can happen alongside all the major software announcements. While the sources say that Apple has worked on a new interface for iOS, MacOS and other operating systems, we have not heard of new WWDC equipment.
There are rumors of products in preparation – including new Macs and the “Homepad” intelligent house center – but the reality is that if you expect to see new equipment at WWDC 2025, you are probably disappointed.
WWDC is a software event
Historically, WWDC is an event focused almost entirely on software. After all, it's a conference for developers. Each year, Apple not only reveals its plans for the future of its operating systems during the event, but also gives developers early access to new APIs and executives. This allows them to start optimizing their applications for new platforms for months before public versions.
Although there were occasional material ads, such as the original homepod, the transition to Apple Silicon in 2020 and the first overview of the Apple Vision Pro in 2023, these moments were closely linked to the needs of developers.
This year, rumors suggest that Apple is working on new material products that may be suitable for WWDC, but it does not seem to be ready for this year's event. Here is why.
Homepad: delayed
In an effort to get Homekit to the next level, Apple has been working on a smart home with a integrated screen for several years. The idea is to allow users to easily control their Homekit accessories, such as lamps, radiators and robot vacuums, even when their phone is not there. Although the real name of the device is not clear, the reports say that it will combine aspects of the HomePod and the iPad in a single product focused on intelligent house, it was therefore nicknamed Homepad.
Apple would make a new intelligent house hub that combines an iPad with a homepod, but it is probably not shipped for a while.

In addition to Home Smart capacities, Homepad would also work as an Apple TV TV entertainment device so that users can broadcast videos and music, or make FaceTime calls from its integrated camera. Essentially, it will be a domestic companion device that is mounted on a wall or is on a platform.
While the Homepad should formerly be launched in the spring, recent reports claim that the project is delayed, perhaps until 2026. The main reason is due to a deep integration with Apple Intelligence and the new Siri experience, which was assailed with problems.
It is possible that Apple gives an overview of Homepad to WWDC, as he did with HomePod and Vision Pro, but most reports say that Apple is focused first on Siri's repair.
M5 Mac and iPads: not yet
The WWDC has been a hot spot for new Macs in recent years, with Apple Silicon, the M2 MacBook Air Redessiné and the Ultra M2 chip making all of their WWDC debut.
As such, there has been speculation about the question of whether Apple will announce new Mac equipment to WWDC. With the exception of Mac Pro, which has not seen any update since 2022, Apple has already completed the transition from the entire MAC range to the M4 chip, introduced last year with the iPad Pro.
In theory, this could mean that Apple will go to the next generation of chips at WWDC, but do not count on it. Apple generally unveils the first new Macs with the next generation of fleas in the fall, around October and November. And according to several industry sources, this will be the case again this year. A new iPad Pro with the M5 and M5 MacBook Pro chip would be on the right track for the second half of 2025.
It is possible that Apple unveils a new high -end chip for Mac Pro aging, but most reports claim that Apple will keep the current model until the arrival of the M5 Ultra.

Could the M5 make its debut at WWDC? It is unlikely.

iPhone 17: to come in September
Although in the past, Apple has introduced new iPhone models to WWDC, it has been more than a decade that an iPhone model made its debut during the event. In addition, the iPhone 16th has just arrived in March, and the iPhone 17 range will arrive in September.
One of the main reasons is that the new iPhone is still shipped with the new version of iOS announced to WWDC, so Apple needs time to test and refine the new software before launching the new phone. So, if you plan to buy an iPhone 17, you will have to wait at least September.
Apple Vision Pro 2: maybe next year
The first Apple Vision Pro is definitely a developer device. It was announced at WWDC 2023 but did not send before 2024, mainly for the developers to have had time to create new applications for the helmet. And with a price of $ 3,499, it is still a developer kit.
The current pro vision is propelled by the M2 chip, which some consumers can consider as exceeded for a product that costs $ 3,500. Although Apple works on a pro vision updated with an M5 chip inside, this model is unlikely to arrive before next year.
According to a report of InformationApple would have put aside the Vision Pro 2 project to work on a more affordable version of its mixed reality headset, but this model should not be shipped for a while. So, even if we are going to take a look at the new Visionos software, the same hardware is probably for at least a year.

WWDC will probably be very software focused this year.

What to expect instead at WWDC 2025?
Again, this WWDC will be all about software and services, so expect major updates on all Apple platforms.
From iOS 19 to macOS 16 (or perhaps iOS 26 and macOS 26), Apple operating systems will be updated with a more modern new interface. Sources believe that the new design language will be similar to what Apple has introduced with Visionos, which has more depth and shadows rather than a completely flat interface.
According to rumors, Apple is working on new features to make iPados more similar to MacOS, as well as to further improve Apple Intelligence and Siri experience. So there will be a lot to get excited about WWDC 2025, but that will certainly not imply any new devices.
The WWDC 2025 starts on June 9 with an opening keynote. Make sure to follow the full coverage of the event by Macworld.
