Ben Griffin made the history of the PGA Tour with the victory of the Charles Schwab Challenge

The PGA Tour finished the game in Texas for the season on Sunday and did it at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Forth Worth. Ben Griffin is the lonely golfer who was standing at the top when everything was said and done.
Griffin won before this season and in general on tour, but on Sunday in Fort Worth scored his first solo victory while he and Andrew Novak won the Zurich Classic together in New Orleans earlier this season. Good for Ben!
Charles Schwab's victory is technically the second of Griffin's season and he joined a fairly exclusive company with regard to players to win several times this season:
- Rory McILroy
- Sepp Straka
- Scottie Scheffler
Speaking of Rory, he also won the Zurich last season and won a solo event, which means that such a thing has happened in the consecutive seasons on tour.
These are obviously interesting songs in history, but Griffin has made a bit of a fairly unique story with regard to his winning round on Sunday.
You see, the first hole in the Colonial Country Club is one by 5. Griffin started his tour-tour on Sunday and recorded an eagle on it.
This is certainly impressive and not necessarily something that everyone can do to start their final round in a tournament he has won due to different courses with different configurations. But Griffin made an eagle on the number 1 and continued to win.
This phenomenon has only occurred 3 times since 1983. It's more than 40 years!
- KJ Choi …………….. 2006 VALSPAR championship
- Phil Mickelson …….. 2009 The Genesis Invitational
- Chris Kirk ……………. 2015 Charles Schwab Challenge
It is funny that the latest example of an eagle on the first hole in the last round of a tournament where he was going to win happened at the Charles Schwab too, well done to Chris Kirk who did it 10 years ago.
We can now officially add Ben Griffin to this list. Perhaps we will also see him in colonial in another decade.
