The House Republicans adopt the big bill for tax reductions and programs reductions

The Républicains of the Chamber stayed standing overnight to spend their tax alternatives of several dollars, President Mike Johnson defying skeptics and unifying his ranks in the priority bill for muscle president Donald Trump on Thursday.
With last -minute concessions and warnings struck by President Trump, the republican retained have largely abandoned their opposition to save the “Big Beautiful Bill” in the heart of the GOP agenda. The room launched a debate before midnight and at dawn, the vote was called, 215-214, the Democrats are firmly opposed. It then goes to the Senate.
“To put it simply, this bill brings the Americans to win again,” said Johnson de Louisiana.
The result highlights an intense period on Capitol Hill, with days of private negotiations and audiences of the public committee, many occur consecutive, 24 hours a day. The Republicans insisted that their extent of more than 1,000 pages was what the voters sent them to the congress – and Mr. Trump in the White House – to accomplish. They believe that it will be the “rocket fuel”, as we said during the debate, for the American economy uncomfortable.
Trump himself demanded measures, visiting the House Republicans at the conference of the Tuesday conference and welcoming GOP leaders and selected for a long session on Wednesday in the White House. Before the vote, the administration warned in a detailed statement that “the non-adoption of this bill would be the ultimate betrayal”.
The GOP's commitment to extend some $ 4.5 billions of tax alternatives that they designed during Mr. Trump's first term in 2017, while temporarily adding new ones to which he campaigned during his 2024 campaign, including no tax on advice, overtime, car loan interests and others.
To compensate for some of the lost tax revenues, the Republicans focused on the changes made to Medicaid and the food coupons program, largely by imposing work requirements for several profits. There is also a massive decline in tax lightening of green energy of the law on the reduction of inflation of the Biden era.
In addition, the package stucks on $ 350 billion in new expenses, with around $ 150 billion to the Pentagon, including for the new “Golden Dome” defense shield of the president, and the rest for mass expulsion and the order of the border security of Mr. Trump.
All in all, the Office of the Non -Sample Congress Budget estimates that 8.6 million less people would have health care coverage and 3 million less people per month would have benefits with the changes offered.
The CBO said the tax provisions would increase federal deficits by 3.8 billions of dollars during the decade, while the changes made to Medicaid, food coupons and other services would total $ 1 billion of reduced expenditure. The least received households in the United States would see their resources fall, while the highest would see a boost, he said.
The Democrat Manager of the Hakeem Jeffries of New York read letters from Americans describing how the program cuts would hurt them. “It's a big ugly bill,” he said.
As a minority, without the votes to stop Mr. Trump's package, the Democrats rather offered passionate speeches and procedural measures to block his progress. As soon as the room floor reopened for a debate, the Democrats forced a vote on the adjournment. He failed.
In “The darkness of the night, they want to pass this tax scam of the GOP,” said representative Pete Aguilar, D-Calif.
Other Democrats have called it a “major bill” or a “big broken promise”.
Gathering the package and pushing it in passing was a huge political elevator for President Johnson, with few votes to save his thin majority in the GOP whose basic Republicans have their own contradictory priorities.
The Conservatives, in particular the Caucus de Freedom, have held higher expense reductions to defray the costs of stacking on the debt of 36 billions of dollars in the country.
At the same time, more moderate and centrist GOP legislators were wary of Medicaid changes that could cause lost health care for their voters. And some feared that the opportunity for renewable energies tax reductions will prevent companies that use them to invest in green energy projects in many states.
A big problem had been the expensive agreement with New York GOP legislators and other high tax states to quadruple the deduction of $ 10,000 for state and local taxes, called SALT, at $ 40,000 for income up to $ 500,000, which was included in the final product.
For each faction lecturer, Johnson tried to satisfy, another would cut in the opposition.
Late at night, the GOP leaders unveiled a 42 -page amendment with a number of revisions.
The modifications included the faster implementation of Medicaid's work requirements, which will start in December 2026, rather than January 2029, and a faster return of production tax credits for clean electricity projects, both sought by the Conservatives.
Unexpected additions have also been nestled in the final version – including a 12 billion dollars fund for the Ministry of Homeland Security in order to reimburse the states that help federal officials to expel and to border security.
And in a nod to the influence of President Trump, the Republicans renamed a new children's savings program after the president, by modifying him of Maga accounts – the account of growth and advancement – to simply “Trump” accounts.
Representative Erin Houchin, R-Ind., Said that the Americans should not believe the disastrous predictions of the Democrats on the impact of the bill. “We can unlock” the golden age “in America,” she said, echoing the president's own words.
In the early morning, the main holplates seemed to line up. Representative Ralph Norman, RS.C. said that they “had obtained some improvements”.
But two Republicans voted against the package, including representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, a deficit observer who had been publicly criticized by Mr. Trump, remained without emotion. “This bill is a debt bomb that draws,” he warned.
And representative Andy Harris, the president of the Caucus Freedom who wanted more time, voted present. Some others have not voted.
The final analysis of the overall costs of the package and economic impacts is still being evaluated.
In addition to extending existing tax alternatives, it would increase the deduction of standard income tax, to $ 32,000 for joint declarants and increased children's tax credit to $ 2,500. There would be an improved deduction, of $ 4,000, for the elderly of certain income levels, to help affect taxes on social security income.
To reduce expenses, those looking for Medicaid Health Care, who are valid adults without charge, should complete 80 hours per month for employment or other community activities.
Similarly, to receive food coupons via Snap, those up to 64 years old, rather than 54 years old, who are valid and without dependents, should meet 80 hours per month or community engagement requirements. In addition, some parents of children over 7 years old should meet the work requirements.
The Republicans said they wanted to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in federal programs.
