Friday, an epidemic of Salmonella linked to an egg producer in California had overshadowed at least 79 people. Among the infected people, 21 hospitalizations were reported, American health officials said.
Organic brown eggs and without cage of August Egg Company with specific sales dates distributed in nine states and retail sites must be thrown or returned where they were bought, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
The CDC report acknowledged that the number of sick people in the epidemic was probably much higher than the number reported, as most people with salmonella meet without requesting medical care or be tested for bacterial infection.
August Egg Company voluntarily recalled 1.7 million dozen eggs that could be contaminated by salmonella, According to the US Food and Drug Administration. In a business announcement shared by the Federal Agency, the supplier of eggs said that as soon as it had found possible contamination by salmonella, it began to divert all the eggs from its transformation plant to an egg rupture installation, which paste the eggs to eliminate bacteria.
The eggs recalled were sold under several brands, notably Clover, First Street, Nulaid, O Organics, Marketside, Raleys, Simple Truth, Sun Harvest and Sunnyside.
The recalled eggs were sold in California and Nevada with sales dates from March 4, 2025 to June 4, 2025, in grocery stores and retail stores, including Save Mart, Foodmaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raley's, Food 4 Less and Ralphs.
They were also distributed to Walmart locations in Nevada and California and seven other states – Washington, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Indiana and Illinois – with different sales dates from March 4, 2025 to June 19, 2025.
In Friday CDC reportOfficials confirmed that they had identified two “subclusive” of illness, groups of people who fell ill after eating in the same place or at the event, such as a restaurant. According to the report, the eggs were served in both places.
Last month, San Diego health officials reported Recording 37 likely and confirmed cases of sick people with Salmonella after having dinner in a restaurant in the San Diego region. In a statement published on May 8, city officials said: “The source of the Salmonella epidemic was not identified and the investigation is underway.”
Salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. Most people recover from bacterial disease in a week, but it can be fatal in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
