ST. Louis – Sonny Gray launched seven rounds of bullets, and the Cardinals of St. Louis beat the Pittsburgh 5-0 pirates sagging for their fifth consecutive victory.

Gray (4-1) withdrew eight and won one in his first victory since April 14. The right-hander went 0-1 with an MPM of 5.51 in its last three departures.

The cardinals returned to 0.500 to 19-19, including a file of 15-6 at home. They are 4-2 against the pirates this year after finishing a three-game scan.

MASYN Winn hit two double RBI. Lars Nootbaar had three shots and Victor Scott II has been scoring for twice.

The pirates (12-26) were excluded for the eighth time. They lost seven in a row and 10 out of 11 in total.

St. Louis jumped in front with two points in the third against Mitch Keller (1-4). Scott walked and scored on the simple Nootbaar right to the right. Winn added a double Bloop RBI.

Scott extended his sequence of strikes at a career summit of eight games when he struck a single at the top of the fifth. He scored on the double of Winn.

Jordan Walker added a single two points to the eighth.

Keller granted seven strokes in six or more rounds. He removed six and walked three.

The pirates finished with four strokes.

Nolan Arenado was striking from the St. Louis range with rear spasms.

Key

The hackers put runners in the corners with one in the eighth. But Kyle Leahy withdrew Bryan Reynolds and withdrew Andrew McCutchen on a second row bouncer.

Key statistics

Oneil Cruz, Ke'Bryan Hayes and Reynolds have each hit twice for Pittsburgh.

The pirates return home for three games against the Braves from Friday. The cardinals start a nine game trip to Washington on Friday evening. RHP Erick Fedde (2-3, 4.78 ERA) begins the opening of the series against nationals.
