Texas and Louisiana in front of the threat of tornado of the Memorial Day

Severe storm warnings have been issued in certain parts of Texas and Louisiana the Memorial Day, with the possibility of thunderstorms, hail and tornadoes.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned residents in the affected regions of remaining vigilant about possible tornadoes and expecting damage to roofs, avoidance and trees.

Why it matters

The Memorial Day sees people through the United States attending events, parades and commemorative monuments for deceased soldiers while used in the army. For many, it also marks the start of summer.

Heavy thunderstorms threaten to disrupt these events, the NWS warns individuals in the affected regions to stay inside.

What to know

The NWS issued severe thunderstorm warnings for some parts of Northeast Texas on Monday morning, including the counties of Marion, Harrison, Smith, Panola, Rusk, Nacogdoches, Shelby and Cherokee.

In Louisiana, warnings were issued in the parishes of Bossier, Caddo and Desoto, including the city of Shreveport.

The NWS warned that gusts of winds of up to 60 miles per hour are expected, as well as the hail of quarters of size and possible tornadoes.

“Stay vigilant for a possible tornado! Tornades can develop quickly from serious thunderstorms. If you see a tornado, go at the same time in the basement or the small central room in a robust structure,” he said. “For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.”

The NWS also said that torrential rains will occur with these storms and could cause sudden floods.
