Roundup sports: Newport takes front on PHS in the baseball classification

Newport took a 6-0 lead in the first two rounds and maintained a 6-3 victory against Philomath on Thursday.
Newport takes the only possession of first place in the Oregon West conference with a 11-1 file with Philomath now in second position at 10-2. The two teams have a remaining series next week – Cubs to face Cascade and the Warriors face North Marion.
Newport took an early advance on a solo home run from two outings by the seniors Boden Langeliers during the first round. The Cubs added five points in the second, a round that included a single of two points by Sophomore Collin Fierro and a double of langliers.
In the fifth, Brady Russell Senior of Philomath struck a Home Run of two points to advance something for the Warriors. The second year student Jacob Hernandez had opened the round with only one before Russell's shot on the left field. Later in the English Channel, the Junior Rocco de La Rosa struck a single of a race with a sophomor AJ Altishin Score.

Philomath will open the North Marion series at home on Monday with the first throw for 5 p.m.

Softball
Stayton broke out for 10 points in fourth round Thursday to move away from Philomath for a 14-1 softball victory.
The Eagles led 4-0 in the fourth round when Philomath pushed a race on a promenade loaded with the basics to get on the dashboard. But Stayton took advantage of walks and errors as well as strokes to assemble his large round in the lower half.
Junior Mackenzie Schacher granted two strokes and three balls on bullets with six stick withdrawals in five rounds. Senior Kaylie Kohler and first -year student Rylee Martin had simple for the Warriors. The second year student Haley King and the first -year student Libby Kramer both saw time at Pitcher.
Philomath (11-10, 5-7) will welcome Cascade at 5 p.m. Monday.

Boys tennis
Philomath Junior Lane Schell won a victory Thursday in Simple N ° 1 in the team's match in Woodburn.
Schell, who faced Aaron Venegas, senior of Bulldogs, fought for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Woodburn won the other four games that were played on the field and added three default victories for a 7-1 final.
Philomath is now turning his attention to the special 4A / 3A / 2A / 1A tournament of the District 2 next week. The action begins on Monday at the Estacada High School before moving to the Salem Swim and Tennis Club Thursday and Friday.

The female tennis team of Philomath High won a 7-1 victory over Woodburn on his courts at home on Thursday.

Boys Volleyball
The Philomath High Boys volleyball team shared a pair of matches in four sets on Thursday on the road.
Playing in Creswell, the Warriors opened with a defeat of 25-18, 25-27, 25-22, 25-21 against the host school. Creswell was one of the most difficult 3A teams this season with a 14-1 file.
Philomath gathered for his second match to defeat the 5A Thurston class, 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 26-24.
The Warriors (12-6) return to the league Tuesday with a trip to North Bend. Philomath will play at 4 p.m. against Marshfield then will follow with a match against the host Bulldogs.
