Roundup sports: 3RD Girls Girls on the big school track

While the smallest school in competition in Dean Nice Invitational on Friday in Gresham, the athletics team of the High School Philomath had a considerable challenge to try to earn points. After all, the competition included 13 schools of 6A and six of 5A with the Warriors and the slabs on 4A.

But one thing seems certain with the 2025 Warriors Joe Fulton group – the team did not go back. Directed by the three individual victories of Janice Hellesto and several other score performance, Philomath won the third place trophy.

“I just had the impression that these girls are particularly deserving to meet high levels,” said Fulton last week after the team participated in another competition at Grande École in Corvalis. “They need competition.”

Philomath welcomes more difficult meetings as training ground to improve times, distances and summits in his pursuit to win a fourth consecutive state of State 4A.

Hellesto admits that she has doubts about competition in so many major meetings. The track and the field can be a mental exercise in addition to the obvious physical skills that are necessary to excel. Last week, after winning the 100, 200 and the long jump to Corvalis, she said that it was a revealing experience to compete this season against the grandes écoles.

“It's really humiliating to be like,” there are people better than me “, and it's okay – it pushes me to be better,” said Hellesto. “But it can be a little difficult when you don't save encounters because it makes me nervous about the state.”

The number of high caliber athletes at Dean Nice Invites had to push Hellesto to be better in the dashboard of the 100 meters because it sprouts at a record time of 12.27 seconds a week after having broken the school record in long jump. Maggie Ross previously held the record of the 100 with a 12.34 that she sprinted during the 2019 Champions meeting, a performance that had broken a 38 -year -old school record at the time.

Hellesto also won the 200 in 25.47 seconds – its best time this season and 0.09 of a personal second time of 25.38 during the state meeting last year. Hellesto also took the first long jump at a distance of 17-9.5.

Among the other team's best performance, Anneka Steen Senior equaled to the second row of the high jump while cleaning even 5 feet. His teammate Hanna McDaniel, also a senior, also managed 5-0 and ranked fourth. On the track, Natalie Dunn Senior ranked third in the 400 with a better time of the season of 58.98 and Adele Beckstead senior finished fourth in 1500 with a 4: 58.91.

Relay 4 per 100 of Philomath had a fourth place in 50.12 with the recruit Kya Bolton, Dunn, the senior Petra Hernandez and Hellesto. And in the 4 by 400, the Warriors finished fifth with Melea Lattin, Beckstead, recruit Reagan Nuño and Dunn.

Aspen Russell Senior (pole jump), second year student Hailey Eckhold (weight throwing), Nuño (800), Cassidy Smart (3000) and Bolton (100) also scored points.

For boys, the second year student Jamin Peters had the higher finish with his fourth place in the disc. Peters had a 134 feet, 9 inch throw, which is 1 foot, 7 inches from his Pr. The CD Junior Nuño ranked seventh in the 200 (22.82) and Junior Lukas Hernandez was eighth with an RP at 1,500 (4: 11.89).
