Weirton – Weir's softball team finished the first step on the way to the state tournament.

Weir – The seeded n ° 1 – and the seeded n ° 3 Brooke met in the Wednesday evening of the region 1 of the AAA class of Virginie -Western 1 with a possible advice at the regional tournament to be won. The Red Riders won a 12-0 victory in five rounds via Mercy Rule in the first match to put Weir One far from the section title. “I am proud of the girls because we have had a few difficult weeks in the past two weeks,” said Weir's head coach (25-7), John Leary. “We were disappointed with how the OVACs took place. Winning the section title was one of our pre-season goals. We wanted to win the section title and go to the regional. We finished the first stage in the victory of a title. Regional is nice.

“I have to give credit to Brooke. We won the first match, 12-0, and they did not overthrow and resigned. They fought until the end. It is a credit for them and a credit to their coaches. They played hard throughout the way.

“We get free time now, and it's a good thing. We have some children who are struck. Free time will give them a chance to heal. We will try to take games. We do not want to have left before the regional. They have a full week to finish the sections. They have the rest of this week and all week. We are going to play. To keep our swings.

After losing the first 12-point game in five innings, Brooke found himself decreasing 1-0 via the fourth round of match 2, however, the Bruins fought and detected a pair of points to take a 2-1 lead. The visitors kept the hosts out of the dashboard at the bottom of the Channel, however, the girls of the county of Hancock were able to break three points in the fifth to resume the advance at 4-2.

The Brooke County girls had two other chances of beating, and they had the race twice in the seventh, however, the Bruins were unable to score again while the redness left with the victory.

“They fought,” said head coach Brooke (7-21), Tom Disrio. “They returned. When you lose the first 12-0 game, many teams would have folded down, but our daughters returned. They fought.

“The second match was a crowded match. Defensively, we have secured the ball, our bats came to life, we had runners on the basis and we scored a few points. If we are unable to climb on the basis and not be able to put the runners in a score position, we are not going to win.

“As trainers, we believe in them. We want them to succeed. It's up to them to go out and play.”

The Red Riders took a quick start in the opening while the section champions placed six points at the bottom of the first round to build an advantage from the start of 6-0.

“It was a good start,” said Leary. “It was particularly useful for Eliza. It is like throwing it for pirates where each land is vital because you are not going to score many races, and you have to be careful. When you have a 6-0 lead, you can just launch. You know that an error will not get lost with the game.”

UTT won the victory in the match when she withdrew four without walking a striker. She did not grant any race on two strokes.

Karson Drumm took the defeat of Brooke. She did not record a stick with the stick walking two.

The Red Riders contributed the Bruins, 10-2, in the match.
