Prateik Babbar was in detoxification treatment, he therefore missed the call of Sanjay Leela Bhansali to launch him in Saawariya | Bollywood News
Ranbir Kapoor was 25 years old when he made his acting debut with Saawariya from Sanjay Leela Bhansali. But Ranbir was not the first choice for the role. Recently, Prateik Babbar revealed that Bhansali had in fact planned to hire him for Saawariya. Prateik, who was then a teenager, said he had learned this opportunity a few years later, because he was in a rehabilitation center.
In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, we asked Prateik if the rumor on him was chosen for Saawariya was true, and he said: “Unfortunately, I was in detoxification treatment at the time. I was 18 years old. I was in rehabilitation. Mr. Bhansali had called our fixed line. ” When asked if Bhansali was aware that he was in a detoxification treatment, Prateik said that the filmmaker had no idea. He also said Bhansali probably didn't even know how old he was at the time. “He was not aware of (rehabilitation). And I don't think he was not knowing how old I was because I was very young,” he said.
Prateik lived with his maternal grandparents at the time. He is the late son of the actor Smita Patil, who died during childbirth, and actor Raj Babbar. Speaking of the missed opportunity, Prateik said: “I learned a year or two later. My grandfather said to me: “Sanjay Leela Bhansali had called for you but you were in the hospital at the time”.

In the same cat, Prateik talked about his drug addiction problems. He said, “The grandparents have seen the worst of me in recent years. I was a drug addict that rages. My grandmother died when I saw me a drug addict. This is something I regret. I want her to see the man I have become today. ”
Prateik finally made his debut in a supporting role in the 2008 film by Abbas Tyrewala, Jaane you yaane na. He shared that he had gone to the film school after working on the film but was expelled because of his drug habit.
