New Yorkers warned against the false QR codes placed on the parking meters which steal the payment information of the victims

New York City warns residents of a new scam that targets people on parking meters.
In a new press releaseThe New York Department of Transportation (DOT) warns the city of the scam, which uses fraudulent QR codes to steal victims' payment data.
The authorities claim that QR codes lead to malicious third-party websites that require data on credit cards, while noting that the legitimate ways to pay for parking in New York are via the Parknyc application or on the meters themselves.
As indicated by the New York Dot Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez,
“Consumers are wary: crooks target parking meats, and we want you to be vigilant. If you see a QR code on a parking meter, do not scan it and please report them. This is a scam to collect your payment information, and we work with the police to hold responsible managers. ”
According to the press release, the authorities began to fight aggressively on the diagram by performing the city -scale inspections, by removing QR codes and by creating means for residents to report false QR codes. If a false QR code is identified, residents are invited to demolish it and contact Parknyc.
