NASA supports the signatories of the Artemis agreements advancing exploration

The United States participated in an international workshop in Artemis Accords from May 21 to 22 to advance safe and responsible exploration of the Moon, Mars and beyond. Hosted by the United Arab Emirates (water), which was represented by the Space Agency of Water, the workshop took place at the National Exhibition Center of Abu Dhabi.
Artemis agreements are a set of non -binding principles signed by nations for a peaceful and prosperous future in space so that all humanity can enjoy it. In October 2020, under the first Trump administration, the agreements were created and, since then, 54 countries have joined the United States to engage in transparent and responsible behavior in space.
“After President Trump's visit to the Middle East, the United States learned about successful travel thanks to the commitment with a global coalition of nations to implement agreements-practical directives to ensure transparency, peaceful cooperation and share prosperity in space exploration,” said NASA's actual administrator Janet Petro. “These agreements represent a vital step towards uniting the world in the continuation of exploration and scientific discovery beyond the earth. NASA is proud to direct in the overall effort of the agreements, advancing the principles while we reject the limits of human presence in space – for the benefit of all. ”
Participants in 30 countries joined the discussions and a table exercise was focused on the definition of challenges to operate in a complex environment.
While the workshop of Artemis Accords ended on Thursday, participants reaffirmed their commitment to maintain the principles described in the agreements and to continue to identify best practices and directives for a safe and lasting exploration. The first workshop was organized by Poland in 2023, followed by Canada in 2024.
Artemis Agreements Signatories is committed to sharing information on their activities at the United Nations of the Pacific Espace Committee and other appropriate channels. Transparency and communication are essential for peaceful exploration.
The signatories of the Artemis agreements will meet for face -to -face discussions on the margins of the International Astronautical Congress at the end of September, where the recommendations and results of the workshop will be presented to the main Artemis agreements. NASA provides that additional countries will sign in the coming weeks and months.
Artemis agreements are based on the Treaty of External Space and other agreements, including the registration agreement and the rescue and return agreement, as well as the best practices for responsible behavior that NASA and its partners have supported, in particular the public publication of scientific data.
