McDavid and Oilers finish stars to book the final game of the Stanley Cup with Panthers | In the NHL
Connor McDavid had the goal of the breakaway which resumed the momentum towards the ilers of Edmonton, and their captain next to the trophy they obtained after having finished another title of the Western Conference.
McDavid obtained this great goal in the second period after a decisive pass, Corey Perry, 40, scored again and the Oilers go to their second final of the Stanley Cup after defeating the stars of Dallas 6-3 Thursday evening in match 5 to conclude the West final.
When McDavid accepted the Campbell Bowl Clarence, he gladly put his hands this time.
“It's quite obvious, I think,” said McDavid about what was different from the end of the western final of last year. “Don't touch it last year, you don't win. Touch it this year, I hope we win.”
Edmonton scored on his first two shots and jumped in advance 3-0 in the 8:07 am in the process of eliminating the stars in the West final for the second consecutive year.
The Oilers obtain another revenge match, against the title champion of the Stanley Florida Cup after a series of seven games last June after the Panthers won the first three games. Match 1 is Wednesday evening in Edmonton.
Dallas was for a goal where Thomas Harley had a single anial blocked by Mattias Ekholm, the defender of the Oilers playing for the first time this qualifying series. McDavid gathered the long ricochet well passed in the center of the ice, remained in advance on Speedy Roope Hintz and beat the Casey Desmith goalkeeper with 5:32 to do in the second period.
“It's a kind of Connor McDavid game and he's just the player he is,” said Perry.
Mattias Janmark, Jeff Skinner, Evander Kane and Kasperi Kapanen also scored for Edmonton, the last an empty network in the last seconds. Leon Draisaitl and Jake Walman each collected two assists.
Jason Robertson scored twice and Hintz had a goal for the stars, who finished their season in the West final for the third consecutive year. Wyatt Johnston and Harley each collected two assists.
“You must continue to knock on the door,” said stars coach Pete Deboer. “We continued every match in this series and it is a difficult way to play hockey against this team. It was the story of the whole series, but the fourth goal, Connor's goal … Puck bounces in the neutral zone, he leaves the bench, he is not missing. It's the finished game.”
Desmith had taken over in the net after starting goalkeeper Jake Oettinger was fired after Janmark's goal, which only made 2-09 in the match.
The guardian of Edmonton Stuart Skinner succeeded in 14 stops. Desmith, who had not played since April 26 in match 1 of the first round against Colorado, stopped 17 of the 20 shots.
Perry scored on a power game, helped by McDavid and Draisaitl, only 2:31 in the game. His seven goals are the most in all players 39 years or over in a single playoff series, and the 2007 Stanley Cup champion with Anaheim at the age of 22 is now in his fifth final in the last six seasons.
It was McDavid's 100th assist in 90 playoffs, the second fastest player in NHL history to reach this brand. Wayne Gretzky collected 100 assists in her first 70 eliminatory games, and no other player has reached the brand in less than 125 games.
Robertson scored a minute in the third period to get the stars again for a purpose. Kane then scored on a shot that left the skate of the Dallas defender, Esa Lindell and Passed Desmith.
Jeff Skinner, the 33-year-old striker, who played 1,078 regular season games over 15 years with three teams, scored his first goal in career playoffs for 3-0 advance. His beginnings in the playoff series took place in the first round against Los Angeles on April 21, but he only played on Thursday, when the Oilers were without injured attackers Zach Hyman and Connor Brown.
