John Brenkus Death: the former “sport science” host lost his fight 'with depression

The world of sport was amazed on Sunday evening while John Brenkus' family, the host of “Sport Science”, which was seen during the ESPN segments, announced its death on social networks.

Brenkus was 54 years old.

A statement published on his social media page said Brenkus “lost his fight” with depression at the end of the month.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that John Brenkus had died,” the statement said. “John, basic productions co-founder, founder of Brinx.tv, and co-creator and animator of” sport science “, winner of an Emmy Award, had fought against depression.

“John lost his fight with this terrible illness on May 31, 2025. His family and his friends with a broken heart are asking for private life at the moment and encourage anyone who is struggling with depression to ask for help.”

Brenkus' death resonated on social networks.

Brenkus had been opened on his battle with his mental health problems. He spoken at the old The NFL star, Marcellus Wiley, about his descending spiral after having sold “Sports Science” in ESPN.
