Ifixit says Switch 2 is probably still a drift

The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 finally abandoned this week, and although it brings a number of large improvements to its predecessor – things like a better screen, more robust internal specifications and more accessible controls – there is one thing in which it is worse. According to defenders of repair and joyful disassemblers to ifixitIt is even more difficult to repair than the original switch.

The most worrying for the new owners is perhaps that, despite a new overhaul “from Ground Up” for the joy-con controllers of the switch, the deep cause of the drift of the sticks-something many owners The original have been complaining for a long time – does not seem to have been really addressed in switch 2.

With the kind authorization of Ifixit

The drift of the stick is something that can happen to the joysticks, generally over time or under intensive use, where the movement is saved without user input. IFIXIT underlines that the less drive joystick technology is based on magnets instead of potentiometers, such as magnetoresist (TMR) sensors of the hall or tunneling effect (TMR), can help prevent this, but it has found none of those present in switch 2.

“From what we can say, the overhaul has not included revision to the main technology which causes the drift of joystick,” writes Ifixit in his blog. “Unless Nintendo uses a new miracle material on these resistive tracks, or the size change in magic, the best fix will come from third -party replacements again.”

Worse, IFixit noted that the replacement of the Joy-Con controllers is actually more difficult this time. “Whatever technology they use … Joysticks are a high component. They can always break a drop, even if they never suffer from drift. Being able to replace these things is a high priority for the repairability of the game console. ”

Overall, Ifixit gave switch 2 a repair score of 3 out of 10. This is a point lower than that of 4 out of 10 Recently retroactively gave the first switch and is late on the tastes of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, both of which obtained 7 out of 10.
