The star of “National Treasure” met President Donald Trump in Mar-A-Lago in Florida during the weekend just before the president announces 100% prices on filming abroad.

“It happened to a point where we really need help, and thank God, the president cares about Hollywood and films”, “Voight tell the variety this week. “He has a great love for Hollywood in this way. We have to wrap our sleeves here. We cannot drop him into the drain like Detroit.”

Trump named Voight with Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as Hollywood ambassadors in January shortly after taking office, which made him reference as a “large but very disturbed place”.

“They will serve me special envoys in order to bring Hollywood, who has lost a lot of business in the past four years in foreign countries, back – better, better and stronger than ever!” He wrote on Truth Social at the time. “These three very talented people will be my eyes and my ears, and I will do what they suggest. It will be again, like the United States of America itself, Hollywood's golden age!”

Voight told Variety that the goal was to “return people of their dignity and their work”, without going into details on the plan, adding: “Something must be done, and it went well”.

Although some members of the industry reacted negatively to the proposal of prices, Voight said that he obtained positive comments.

“We have obtained many good people from people,” he added. “We are really rolling up our sleeves and working. I think we have a good plan, and we are just starting. This little team has worked very hard to try to understand things. The people and the producers of the union give their expertise and their understanding to this problem, and we work together. Many people have had a lot of contribution and we listen to everyone.”

Voight said the studios took advantage of the financial incentives to be pulled abroad.

“Each studio has a lot of intelligent people, and they have operated the radiation and gifts that are offered worldwide to attract people in different countries,” he told Variety. “They take advantage of it. Now we say,” Hey, we must have it here. “Let's have the level playground.

Voight also said he thought he and Trump were unjustly treated by those in the industry who lean on the left.

“But what is the difference? Who cares?” He said. “I mean, there has been a battle, but now it's time to put it aside. And I must say, in all the interactions we have had [on addressing runaway production]Politics has never appeared. Never.”

“It shouldn't be political,” added Voight. “I do not know the political identity of the people we talked about. We talked to a lot of people here. I do not distinguish them on their affiliation. And if we can find [a plan that can be executed]He will support us. He wants us to be the Hollywood of yesteryear. If we all get together, I think we have a brilliant future. “”
