In response, McIver said the accusations were politically motivated and distorted his conduct.
“Earlier this month, I joined my colleagues to inspect the treatment of ice prisoners in Delaney Hall in my district. We carried out our legitimate surveillance responsibilities, as the members of the Congress have done so several times before, and our visit should have been peaceful and short. statement. “The accusations against me are purely political – they badly and distort my actions, and are supposed to criminalize and dissuade legislative surveillance. The announcement of the accusations against Mciver came in parallel with the rejection of a distinct accusation of offense against the Democratic Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, who had also visited the installation to protest. Habba said Baraka would be invited to visit Delaney Hall under her supervision.
“Congress surveillance is an important constitutional function, which I fully support,” added Habba. “However, this is not in question in this case.”

Baraka was arrested after trying to join the Democrat representative of New Jersey, Robert Menendez, Bonnie Watson Coleman and McIiver for a planned visit to the Delaney Hall immigrants' detention center. Ice agents would have blocked the entrance to Baraka, triggering an animated exchange before taking it into police custody, according to eyewitnesses and Video sequences.
Menendez and McIver blamed ICE agents for the confrontation outside of Delaney Hall, accusing them on CNN of having caused the incident which led to the arrest of Baraka. Once pressed by the host Dana Bash about the allegations that she criticized an officer, McIver denied the complaint and criticized the Ministry of Internal Security for having trouble charged the meeting.
