Deepal S07 test, review; A new player in the SUV EV game in China

  • The Deepal S07 is a Chinese manufacturing car and the first EV SUV of the company.
  • I led this medium -sized SUV around Singapore for two days and I was impressed by its manipulation capacity.
  • The company's objective is to reach $ 10 billion in the overseas market by 2030.

At first glance, the aggressive position of the Deepal S07, the net lines and the coupé -shaped roof line gave serious vibrations of Lamborghini Urus. But while it looked like the Italian gas SUV, the S07 is completely electric.

The unleashed bull is not the brand type with which this Chinese EV seems to try to compete. Instead, Deepal S07, the company's first SUV, would be better compared to other electric vehicles, including Tesla, Volkswagen and Byd.

However, I thought it was a daring first impression – just in a smaller set, much more suitable for wallets than the Lamborghini. Later, I discovered that Deepal's flagship SUV had been designed in Turin, Italy, and met in Nanjing, China.

Deepal is a brand of electric automotive electric vehicles, one of the oldest Chinese car manufacturers. While Deepal is a more recent EV space player, Changan began to build cars in 1959 and published his first Deepal model in 2022.

Changan has large aspirations at the Deepal brand. At the end of last year, Deng Chenghao, the president of Deepal, delivered a speech to celebrate the deployment of the company's 400,000th car. He said the company aims to deliver 500,000 other cars – 400,000 in China and 100,000 for the world market – by the end of this year, by ichongqingAn English language information platform affiliated with government.

In China, the Deepal S07 is at the price between 169,900 and 197,900 Chinese Yuan, or $ 23,300 and $ 27,200.

The brand extended to Thailand in 2023, followed by Australia, Mexico, Nepal and Pakistan. In March, cars started selling in Singapore.

In a press release from March, Shen Xing Hua, the director general of Chantan Southeast Asia, said that Singapore plays a central role in the globalization strategy of the company. “This will support our goal of exceeding $ 10 billion in market investment abroad and to make more than 1.2 million annual sales in foreign markets by 2030,” said Shen.

During my 22 years on the automotive stage, I tested cars in Singapore and abroad, taking the wheel of everything, supercars with vans.

The Deepal S07 is marketed as an EV Premium SUV

So what is the Deepal S07 to drive?

For two days in mid-April, I tested an S07 fully specified in Singapore. Here, the car sells $ 220,000 in Singapore, or $ 170,000. The prices of cars are much higher in Singapore than most other countries due to additional tax and registration costs. The Lamborghini Urus costs approximately 1.5 million SG dollars and the SEEDION 7 of BYD, the direct competitor of the S07, sells between $ 212,888 SG at $ 237,888 SG.

Combed as an EV Premium SUV, the S07 had 19 -inch wheels, a large glass roof with a sunburn and elegant door handles that only appeared when I unlocked the car. I found that the daring front and dynamic rear design was a refreshing change compared to the most rounded contours of Tesla Model Y, another medium size SUV.

The cameras and sensors are carefully hidden in the body. And, as I am in detail, I liked that the gaps in the panel are minimal. In all, it was far from the Chinese cars that I driven 15 years ago. At the time, I often had the impression of checking the unfinished prototypes – the genre that made me ask me how long they would last.

Improving the deep S07 is a testament to the progress of Chinese manufacturers.

Comfortable rear seats

I led the SUV around most of Singapore and I felt comfortable while driving all the time. I had a great visibility of the large glass area.

My buttocks were comfortable on the terracotta leather seats, but I had the impression that the driver's seat could use better shoulder support for long journeys.

I tried to sit at the rear and found the rear seats comfortable for two adults – there is a lot of space. The flat floor also gives third person in the middle enough leg space.

Admire

All the windows were doublet Vitr, which helped reduce the wind and the noise of the road from the outside, even at highway speeds. I have not traveled more than 65 miles per hour (thanks to Singapore's speed cameras), but even when I got closer, it was impressive to calm inside.

I tested the audio system at 14 speakers by exploding John Mayer on Spotify by driving along the highway – the audio quality was impressive.

Lots of chest space, front and back

Everything is on the screen

Most functions for the Deepal S07 are managed by a 15.6 -inch touch screen.

The absence of physical pimples – Most functions are managed by a 15.6 -inch touch screen – gives the cabin a clean and modern look. That said, I couldn't help but think I would need time to adapt if I bought this car. Part of this is because I would be a first owner of VE, but also because almost everything goes through the screen. Wiper speed, air conditioning, seats heating, audio – everything is digital.

Hearing themselves with the theme without button, the danger lighting switch was mounted on the ceiling. It took me a few minutes to find, and it made me think that it was a fairly impractical place.

Smooth acceleration and direction

Management had reassuring weight and precision.

A pleasant surprise with the S07 was the way she skips this feeling of “rocket launch” that I felt in other electric vehicles – the kind of jerk you get with teslas and Porsche. There were no sudden sprints that could leave a passenger tightening their seat. He accelerated with smoothly ease, proving that performance does not always have to come with a rabbit side.

Management had reassuring weight and precision. While I was sailing a series of turns, I noticed a strange similarity with the way a BMW X3 manages.

Disappointed by tires

The car would have benefited from a more efficient tire with better grip.

That said, the tires adjusted in the factory did not quite do justice from the car chassis. A more efficient tire with better adhesion and better stability of the side wall would probably bring out the dynamic full potential of the S07.

This car stands out as a strong alternative to the most established EV SUVs. If I shop for one, I would certainly look beyond the usual suspects and I would give a serious look to the S07.
