Day tripping: Booth Western Museum to exhibit Western Hollywood costumes


Are you looking for an excursion of a fun day? The Booth Western Museum in Cardersville, in Georgia, about an hour south of Chattanooga, will open a new exhibition entitled Western costumes from the Silver Screen: The Davey Collection from Saturday May 10.

The collection will star an organized selection of 24 clothes and accessories worn by famous actors in Western films. Each display will be twinned with posters of Western films and historic photographs offering viewers an overview of the Golden Age of Western films.

The press release said John H. Davey, a collector of Hollywood souvenirs, has more than 3,300 articles related to Hollywood. His commitment to preserving the history of Hollywood began in 1998 and her vast collections covered several kinds of different films.

The exhibition will present the Western costumes worn by film icons. Among the items to display, there is the striped mantle worn by John Wayne in the film “Dakota”, a green dress carried by Elizabeth Taylor in “Giant”, and a costume carried by Dustin Hoffman in “Little Big Man”.

A cowboy hat worn by Burt Reynolds and a shirt and pants worn by Dom Deluise in “Best Little Whore House in Texas”, will be at the exhibition as well as a leather jacket carried by Jake Gyllenhaal in “Brokeback Mountain”.

The personal items of actor Chuck Conner, Dale Evans and Patsy Cline complete the exhibition.

Seth Hopkins, the executive director of the museum, said that Western films were an important part of the American film from the start dating from “The Great Train Robbery” in 1903. He said that the exhibition features costumes, posters and illustrations offers visitors a curtain experience in the world of films.

The exhibition will take place from May 10 to September 21, 2025. An exclusive opening of members will occur on May 10, with gallery walks, a reception and a conference. The activities of opening members are free but must be reserved in advance.

The Booth Museum, in association with the Smithsonian Institution, is a museum of 120,000 square feet located in Cartersville, in Georgia, where guests are invited to see the history of America through contemporary Western illustrations, a presidential gallery and an interactive gallery for children.

Open since August 2003, Booth Museum is the only museum of the genre in the Southeast and was appointed 2020, 2021 and 2022 USA Today's 10best Peoples' Choice Award of the best art museum in the country.
