Date set for commercial cannabis licenses from Minnesota Loterie

The Minnesota cannabis management office announced the date of the first lottery to decide that will obtain state cannabis commercial licenses.

The license lottery will take place on June 5 for cannabis growers, manufacturers and “mezzobusiness”-which are essentially all-in-one operations that can cultivate and buy cannabis, and manufacture and sell cannabis products.

There will also be a lottery of June 5 for cannabis retailers licenses for candidates for social equity, including veterans, people who live in high pause areas and those historically injured by war against drugs.

A second LOCK LOCAL DE CANNABIS – for candidates general as well as candidates for social equity not selected at the Lottery of June 5 – will be held in July.

The announcement and sequence of the lottery dates “reflect the objective of the license office of the starting chain of departure points in order to promote a fair cannabis market which prioritizes health and public security, consumer confidence and the integrity of the market,” said Eric Taubel, interim director for the state cannabis management office, in a press release. He said that the office “prioritizes the examination of the requests for the types of license necessary to stage the market successfully”.

The state said hundreds of candidates have qualified for the lottery for a defined number of licenses for various categories. More requests remain under examination.

The cannabis management office said that the license lottery on June 5 will be broadcast live and available for the public.

In November 2024, prosecution on the lottery on social equity forced a judge to arrest the commercial license lottery of Minnesota Cannabis.

Marijuana recreational became legal in 2023 in Minnesota.
