OPENAI will remain under the control of the group's non -profit arm, with the CATGPT Maker reversing the course after intense criticism of Elon Musk on plans to convert to a for -profit business.
The company, which recently collected funds to an evaluation of $ 260 billion, said that it would convert its existing for -profit subsidiary to a public service company, raising its current ceiling on yields that investors can receive, but would leave the non -profit organization with ultimate control.
The decision comes after a conspiracy to the restructuring of the company proposed by OPENAI to a for-profit company, including a trial of the former co-founder and Musk technological entrepreneur, as well as generalized criticisms on the part of the former employees and the Academic Community of AI.
Critics argued that without non -profit conservation control, as it did and will continue to continue in the new plans, the company would not have a single fiduciary responsibility for its foundation mission: to ensure that AI benefits from humanity.
Sam Altman, the group's general manager, said on Monday that the decision was not motivated by external pressure. “We are all obsessed with our mission. You are all obsessed with Elon. “
OPENAI has also faced complex negotiations with the lawyers general of Delaware, where the non -profit organization is incorporated, and California, where it is based and with its investors, including Microsoft.
The lawyers general have asked OpenAi insurance that it will remain attached to its charities in the context of any conversion, and that the assets held by the non -profit organization will be quite appreciated in the restructuring.
Bret Taylor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OpenAI, said that the group “had made the decision of the non -profit association to maintain OPENAI control after hearing civic leaders and initiated a constructive dialogue with the offices of the Attorney General of Delaware and the Attorney General of California”.
