Celebrate the national week of small businesses

Today I want to take a quick break in my deep dive The discussion of the Assistance and Taxpayers Acts To highlight an important celebration: National Small Business Week (NSBW), celebrated this year from May 4 to 10.

NSBW was created by the Small Business Association (SBA) to honor the hard work and the contributions of small businesses and entrepreneurs. This year's celebration includes a virtual summit organized by SBA, as well as a variety of events aimed at equipping owners with small tools with tools to succeed. You can find out more on the two -day summit from May 6 and register for events by visiting the SBA website.

Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. The owners of small businesses feed innovation, offer jobs and have a critical impact to make their communities incredible places to live and work. At TAS, when we say that we work to solve tax problems and improve the tax administration for taxpayers, small businesses are among the taxpayers for which we go to the stick, and we are proud to serve as voice when they plead with IRS.

Throughout my career, first as a tax lawyer, and now as a defender of national taxpayers, I worked to make sure that small businesses have access to the resources and advice they need to navigate the tax plan. More recently, I highlighted the need for IRS to increase education around tax advantages and credits for small businesses in my 2024 annual report in Congress. The taxpayer's rights charter affirms each taxpayer right to pay more than the correct tax amountBut that can only happen if business owners are aware of the deductions and the credits to which they are eligible. Not knowing the tax advantages for which a small business is eligible can lead to an overpayer and can put the small business to a competitive disadvantage.

At TAS, we offer a section of small businesses dedicated to our website. We are continuously working to provide business owners with the tax information they need, whether it is an identification number of the employer, to request a repair in the event of a disaster or simply to decompose their global tax responsibilities. We have also recently updated a tax council on the importance of the requirements for holding files and submission, and I encourage you to take a look at the 2025 Tax calendar For important dates and deadlines for deposit throughout the year.

Whether you are a new entrepreneur or a seasoned business owner, I hope you will find these useful resources, and if you need additional help, don't forget that TAS is there for you, not only during NSBW, but throughout the year.

Finally, I encourage everyone to go out and support small businesses in their communities. Whether you buy local, you eat or share a kind word, each gesture helps these companies prosper not only during the National Small Business Week, but every day.
