Amateur baseball: Paynesville shines in Opening – West Central Tribune

PAYNESVILLE – The opening day, sunny and quite soft for shorts and t -shirts, even included an impromptu flying over a private plane on Sunday just after the national anthem at Paynesville Baseball Park.

“Mike (Kingery) congratulated me on having obtained the fly,” said Ron Fuchs smiling, director of Pirates in Paynesville.

Note to readers: it was a coincidence.

Paynesville beat the Atwater Chuckers of Kingery 5-1 when opening the County League.

The pirates did it with strong treads and enough strokes to increase their record to 2-0, including a 10-1 exhibition victory against Willmar Indians last weekend.

Bennett Evans and Sam Oehrlein were combined on a hitting shot, removing 13 with two goals on balls. Evans, a 20 -year -old right -hander, made six rounds, withdrawing seven without walking. He gave two strokes, including a Home Run by David Kingery (more about it in an instant) and a double of Josh Kiryery.

Oehrlein, a 24-year-old left-hander and former Concordia college in Moorhead Play-Glay, withdrew six and walked two in three innings to recover the backup. “Bennett and Sam launched a lot for us last year,” said Fuchs.

This year, they will have to do it. Grady Fuchs, the manager's son, should not launch due to shoulder problems.

Grayson Fuchs, another manager of the manager, was one of the four pirates with two strokes on Sunday, including Oehrlein, Reed Johnson and Luke Johnson.

It was a good victory for Paynesville, which will be a younger team. Reed Johnson, Gavin Bulthuis and Brock Bruntlett have all started and all are always in high school. Peyton Hemmesch, Emerson Stern and Eric Paulson are also on the list and are aged 18 or less.

“Atwater is the team to beat in our league in the past two years,” said Ron Fuchs. “To get this one, it's huge.”

The game was originally to be played in Atwater, but was moved due to the construction and recent improvements made to Kringery Field. According to the director of chuckers, the manager of the chuckers, Mike Kingery, is close to $ 300,000 of work. About 65,000 to $ 70,000 should be collected. However, there is a huge new dashboard, a lot of new concrete and a giant canopy on the gallery.

Once finished, the park will include 180 seats from the old minneapolis metrodom.

“I can't wait to see their field,” said Fuchs. “It looks like it's going to be quite special.”

The community hopes to reveal it officially in a double-head of the school which should start at noon on Saturday May 10 when the city of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove plays Royalton.

As for the chuckers, their early schedule is exclusively on the road games until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30, when Atwater is welcomed the New London Spicer Twins.

Until then, the Chuckers are playing at 1:30 p.m. next Sunday in Sunburg against the Lak-Sunburg Lakers in Norway, May 18 in Starbuck and at 7:30 p.m. on Friday May 23 in Regal.

As for the Paynesville match, Mike Kingery summed it up well.

“It was a first match,” said former Major Leaguer. “Their launchers (the Bulldogs) have launched well. The big difference is withdrawals to the stick. We have withdrawn 13 times and they have removed seven times. They have put so many balls at stake.”

Atwater's race occurred on a solo shot by David Kingery at the top of the first round. It was the first Home Run in the second 25 -year -old.

Josh Kingery also took a fight for chuckers.

“We have struck the two most difficult balls, when can you say?” Said Mike Kingery.

Like Paynesville, chuckers are still missing key guys. The Jeff Peterson stop stop going to Florida Gulf Coast University and will not be back for a few weeks. Logan Straumann is at the University of Minnesota-Morris and Jaxon Behm was not available on Sunday.

Paynesville is expected to welcome Starbuck Stars at 1:30 p.m. next Sunday. Then the pirates face the New London-Spicer Twins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday May 18 at the Green Lake Diamonds in Spicer.
