Adam Lambert would play Judas in the Hollywood Bowl 'Jesus Christ Superstar'

“Jesus Christ superstar” becomes star. The production of three nights from the classic Broadway musical which takes place for the Hollywood Bowl this summer adds Adam Lambert to the distribution, as Judas.

He joins Cynthia Erivo, who has already been announced, in a gender cast, for the role of Jesus. The choice of the program for Mary Magdalene has not yet been revealed.

Lambert's announcement just arrived a day before the simple tickets were on sale for the whole season in 2025 of the Bowl of the shows produced by the Phil. Tickets for this and other Phil productions will be on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT, after packages for several programs have previously been put to win. A Lambert / Erivo that teams up on one of the great rock musicals of all time seems to make the “superstar of Jesus Christ” one of the faster sales of the season.

Of course, even without Judas getting his name in the title, this character is undoubtedly the main role, if there is one, in the show, who put the composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and the lyricist Tim Rice on the map of the musical theater.

Lambert will arrive in Hollywood shortly after having finished a famous six -month stay in the revival of Broadway during “cabaret” (or “cabaret at the Kat Club Kit” because it was removed for current production). As previously announced, the three -night “superstar” stand is produced and choreographed by the winner of Tony Award, Sergio Trujillo, and he will be directed and led by Music by Tony and the Grammy winner, Stephen Oremus (who worked on the Broadway and Cinematographic versions of “Wicked”). The show is produced in association with Neil Méron and Robert Greenblatt.

The “superstar” production follows in an annual tradition that the bowl has to make an entirely staged version of a famous musical with names of names for a flashing and yourself race. The last announcement for the show reaffirms that it will be a “staged” production and not a pure concert interpretation. At the same time, however, there is a promise that the show “returns to its rock roots”, a reference to the way in which “Jesus Christ Superstar” had its very first incarnation as a 1970 rock concept album before its Broadway product in 1971, then became a 1973 film.
