Cooper Eggert, Providence Top Lincoln-Way East

For a short time, Cooper Eggeret of Providence said that he felt sorry for himself.

The senior launcher was informed by three doctors – including an orthopedic surgeon for the Reds of Cincinnati – that he needed a Tommy John operation after having injured his elbow on April 24 against Marist.

“When I discovered the third doctor that I will need surgery, I crossed a point in my head where I was struggling,” said Eggert. “I felt bad through.”

Eggert came out of his sullen mood when Scott Mensik, his former coach of Mokena Blaze, gave her inspiring words to live.

“He said,” You can't look in the past and you can't do anything about it – go ahead, win another ring “,” said Eggert.

This will not happen with Eggert on the mound. But after a passage as the designated striker of the team, he now manages the first goal and helping the Celtics defensively and on the plate.

His performance on Saturday presented a triple base in the second round which sparked Providence at a 12-0 rout of Lincoln-Way East in the class 4A championship match Lincoln-Way West in New Lenox.

EGGERT rolled in four points for Providence (27-12), which will play on Monday at 7:30 p.m. against the rival of the Catholic League, Brother Rice (36-3) in the Crestwood Supersctional in Ozinga Field.

“It struck by Cooper – it was enormous,” said Providence of Providence Mark Smith about Eggert, who signed up in Siu Edwardsville. “It gave us a little cushion.”

Jake Newman led Lincoln-Way East (28-11) with two strokes. Senior left -hander Jack Bauer, a prospect of the MLB which recently won Virginia, granted six points in a round and more action.

Bauer, who made the headlines of national newspapers for launching 102 MPH earlier in the spring, was on a strict count this season. He launched 35 throws in the first round and finished with 53.

“We spent an hour removing the hacks from the 100 MPH machine,” said Eggert about the training session on Friday evening. “It was difficult. But the plan was to have it launched strikes. We heard about its number of pitchs, and if we raised during the first round, it would soon be withdrawn.”

It allowed Providence to win the 13th section title in the history of the program.

EGGERT, on the other hand, was operated with Timothy Kremchek, a longtime doctor for the Reds, after the playoffs on June 17. It is also prepared for a season of red shirts at university.

However, Eggert said that he appreciated his time at the first goal. And Smith likes to have it in programming.

“He had a sort of senior last year,” said Smith about Eggert. “He started with an injury to the hamstrings and missed the first two games. But this injury really struck this team.

“It is a very united team. There are 20 seniors in this team out of 24. When you break down, they all felt it, and it took us a while to overcome this. When it came back, it just made us a little.”

Count O'Donnell as one of the Celtics who is happy to have Eggert. And then some.

“He has had a lot of ups and downs, and an injury like this is in your head and can hurt your state of mind,” said O'Donnell about Eggert. “For him, coming back to play the first goal for us is huge.”
