Joslyne de la Nuez de Canterbury

The News-Press selects athletes who stood out the previous week according to a combination of coach reports and school appointments sent to sports@news-press.com And our cover. These athletes are placed in a survey every Monday on News-press.com and you, our readers, vote on who you think it did the best. The winners of the News-Press Athlete of the Week survey receive a T-shirt from BSN Sports and a tote bag from USA TODAY High School Sports Awards. To better understand our winners, the News-Press will have a question-answer session with each athlete.
The winner of the athlete of the week of the week for April 21 to 26 with 56% of the votes was the athlete of Canterbury Track Joslyne de la Nuez. The junior took first place in 200 meters and 100 obstacles to 12 -1A class competition.
Question: You won four medals during the state meeting last year. What is your expectation this year?
De la nuez: You know how to work, persevere through a few injuries this year, I have the impression that we had to learn to navigate through different obstacles, not to be able to make a long jump, not to be able to compete in some of the events for which I should qualify, but I do not simply qualify for two events for the long journey, and we hope it, and let's not just come back, events and be better, and hope it. “”
In the past, you have run sprints, obstacles and long jump. What is your favorite event and why?
De la nuez: I love obstacles. I get more like a rush to adrenaline. I mean, I become super nervous for each of my shopping, but I think that the obstacles are like somewhere that it was as if everything could happen. A wink. I mean, I was on the ground in one step, but it makes me want to work harder and make sure, like, I stay just at the top. “”
By performing only 200 and 100 obstacles instead of four events, do you think it can help your chances of winning a state title?
De la nuez: I hope. Hopefully this year, obstacles is the year to get a gold. So we will see what we put together at home. I'm excited. We will see. I mean, I hope I just have a good race. Last year, I did not have the best obstacles that came out of the long jump in the states. But since I don't make a long jump this time in the States, I hope I can come back stronger.
Do you have rituals or pre-reunion superstitions?
De la nuez: The day before, I must have pasta. And as my ritual changes. For example, if I have a bad race, I will have to change everything I did that day. But if I had a good race, I like to do everything exactly the same way. So, from my hair to what I eat everything.
You still have a year left, but what do you see in your future after Canterbury?
De la nuez: I hope to go to a good place for track reasons and see where the university leads me if I want to continue, maybe the Olympic Games one day, or just study everything I want to study for free.
