New York – An explosion on a boat with raw wastewater which was moored on the Hudson river in New York killed a long -standing employee of the city on Saturday, the authorities announced.
Another worker of the Hunts Point ship belonging to the city was injured and taken to the hospital after the explosion around 10:30 am near the North River wastewater treatment plant, according to the deputy deputy chief of the city's fire service David Simms. A third worker refused medical treatment.
The cause of the explosion was the subject of an investigation, but the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, said in a statement that the criminal intention was not suspected. The men of the boat, who take raw wastewater from the city to be treated, did a job involving a flame or sparks when the explosion has occurred, said the American coast on social networks.
The first stakeholders found an unconscious 59 -year -old man in the river, said New York police, and was declared dead on the scene.
The man had been a long -standing employee of the city's environmental protection department. His name was not released, but the mayor said that he was “a dedicated official who gave 33 years of service to the city of New York, and our hearts go to his family, his friends and colleagues during this painful period.”
The explosion has spread raw wastewater on the boat deck, and firefighters and other first speakers had to be decontaminated, said Simms. The DEP said that there did not seem to be any environmental impacts after the explosion.
