The stab wounds at the German station leave several people injured; A suspicious woman has been arrested, say the authorities

Friday, a stab attack at the lively central station of the German city in Hamburg made several injured, some of them in a deadly state, the authorities said.

The police said that a 39 -year -old woman, a German national, had been arrested on the scene without setting up resistance and that they believe, after watching video sequences, they acted alone. The police also obtained the knife.

The striker targeted people on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 from the station around 6 p.m., the local time, police said. The Hamburg city center station, the second largest German city, is a major hub for local, regional and long distance trains.

Hamburg firefighters initially declared that six people underwent potentially fatal injuries, while three others were seriously injured and three have undergone slight injuries, the German news agency DPA reported. The police, however, said later that there were not yet “valid figures”, but that “several” people had suffered fatal injuries.

There was no immediate indication of any political reason, and the investigators were looking for if the suspect was perhaps mental ill, said police spokesperson Florian Abbenseth.

A high-speed interurban express, or ice, with its open doors was still on the platform a few hours after the attack, but Abbenseth said it was not a crime scene.

The operator of the railroads Deutsche Bahn said that he was “deeply shocked” by the attack. Four tracks at the station were closed on Friday evening, and some long distance trains have been delayed or diverted.

The transport of weapons, including knives, is prohibited at the station and on local transport in Hamburg.
